Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound Case of 12

Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound is a viscoelastic damping compound applied between two layers of drywall. It converts the mechanical energy of sound into a very small amount of heat, which stops the panel resonating and passing sound through.

Green Glue: Case / 12 tubes

Adding a second layer of drywall adds mass, and mass helps. But two sheets screwed tightly together behave like one thicker, stiffer sheet and still resonate. A damping layer between them lets the sheets shear against each other very slightly, and that shearing is where the sound energy is lost.

Product Detail

How it is applied

The compound is applied in a random pattern from the tube onto the back of the second sheet, which is then fixed within the manufacturer's stated open time. It is not a glue and it is not meant to bond the sheets rigidly.

Coverage

At the recommended rate the case covers roughly 192 square feet, which is about six sheets of 4 by 8 drywall using two tubes per sheet.

Specifications

SupplyCase of 12 tubes
Tube size28 oz
Coverage per tubeApproximately 16 square feet at recommended rate
Recommended rate2 tubes per 4 by 8 sheet
Low frequency option3 tubes per sheet
Case coverageApproximately 192 square feet

Worth knowing. More is not better. Performance improves up to about three tubes per sheet and then declines, so applying extra compound wastes material without improving the result.
