2-Hour Fire Rated Recessed Light Cover
A fire rated cover for recessed light fittings, used to restore both the fire rating and the acoustic continuity of a ceiling that has been penetrated by downlights.

Two hour Fire Rated Recessed Light Cover
Every recessed light is a hole through the ceiling. It breaks the fire rating of a rated assembly and it breaks the acoustic barrier at the same time. A rated cover addresses both, which is why it appears in acoustic specifications as often as fire ones.
Why downlights undo ceiling work
Clients often build an isolated ceiling and then cut a dozen openings into it. Each opening is a direct air path into the void above. On a ceiling designed to block a neighbour, uncovered downlights can remove much of the improvement.
The alternative
Where the design allows it, surface mounted or track lighting avoids the penetration entirely and is usually the better acoustic answer. Where recessed fittings are required, the covers are not optional.
