Bulk Applicator Gun
A bulk applicator gun is the tool used to apply damping compound from a five gallon pail rather than from individual tubes. On any job above a few hundred square feet it is not optional.

Bulk Applicator Gun
Damping compound has to be applied at a controlled rate and the second drywall sheet has to be fixed within the compound's open time. Working from tubes on a large ceiling means constant stopping to reload, and the first area applied can pass its open time before the sheet goes up.
What it changes on site
The gun draws directly from the pail, so a full sheet can be covered in one continuous pass. That keeps the application rate even and keeps the crew inside the working window.
Care
The compound must not be left to cure in the barrel. The gun is cleaned at the end of each session, which is the single thing that determines whether it lasts one job or many.

Worth knowing. If you are ordering the five gallon pail, order the gun with it. The pail cannot be applied correctly without one.
